HPTC 2017/18 Season Open Day
The club is having two open days, Saturday and Sunday afternoons on 2/3rd Sept from 1-4pm each day.
We need YOUR help to introduce friends, family or work colleges to the club. They don't need to join but the more people who know about our club the better for us. We have plenty of good news to share with the new Te Kura members and new courts coming. I will be there both days and personally thanking everyone who brings someone new to enjoy an afternoon with us.
Please share this email with your friends. Like the event on Facebook and let your kids do their magic with social media please.
The practical plans are as follows:
(12:30 - 2:00 Casual BBQ)
1:00 - 1:45pm TENNIS HOT SHOTS COACHING with a Red, Orange and Green court. Hugo plus at least two helpers.
1:45-2:05pm. demo where Hugo will run drills with some of our best junior players to give spectators a bit of an idea of the pathway at the club from beginner to high nationally ranked players.
2:15-3:00pm Tennis Xpress with Hugo (like Ezy tennis), where adult beginner players can try for free.
3:00-3:45pm Cardio Tennis with Hugo. Free for anyone to try, He can take a maximum of 8 players, so first serve on the day (plays to music)
2:30 - 3:30 Hot Shots Community play - red court only (Tim on lawns), ages 5-8
1:00 - 3:45 Senior organized social play (incl visitors) - four courts
Interclub juniors welcome to participate in any of hot shots coaching and the adult stuff if they can play well enough
3:45 Afternoon tea (members bring a plate) in the clubhouse
1:00 - 4:00 will basically be meet and greet and play - depending on numbers we'll try and get senior and/or junior organized social play (members and visitors) on whatever sized courts suits the audience
3:00 - 4:00 Casual BBQ
Also note adult members that for the Saturday play courts will be much busier than usual. Members may have occasions of waiting out a round or we may consider playing triples depending on numbers. But there will be plenty of other fun stuff to do and we hope new friends to meet and introduce to the club.
We will send a separate message with more specific information for parents of juniors about the Saturday.
Hagley Park Tennis Club hosted the TennisNZ National Seniors Tournament in late January. There were many comments received complimenting the club on the standard of the grass courts. One such received as a letter is given below.
Greetings, I recently played in the above event at your Club and wanted to pass on a big THANK YOU to the person/persons that were responsible for preparing the grass courts for this event. The last time I played a tournament on natural grass was at Wilding Park in 1966.
And so this was a very special tournament to be able to play all of our matches on grass at your Club was both a pleasure and a privilege. I am well aware that to get grass courts to this standard takes considerable planning, expense, hard work, and long hours.
To all involved in bringing this about I can’t thank you enough for this wonderful experience. My doubles partner George Taylor who plays in many senior and masters events said this was his favourite, and the grass contributed to that.
I also want to thank the team that catered for our needs with food and refreshment. You certainly did this very well and this too contributed to our enjoyment.
If I lived in CHCH I would certainly be a member at your Club…………………….well done and thanks for the memories.

2016/17 Season Lawn Opening Day
Saturday the 8th October, starting 1:30pm with afternoon tea at 3:30pm and an opportunity to hear and discuss news about the club (eg: hotshots, cobblestones, website and much more).
We now have a good stock of hotshots equipment purchased and will use this opening day as an unofficial hotshots community play experiment, so children are included in this invitation (for play and fun games) and I’m sure we will manage to entertain them effectively enough that the parents can get free to have some adult play.
Please note that the open day means visitors are to be encouraged and there will be no green fees collected. Please take this opportunity to invite friends and colleges to come and enjoy with us. Naturally we would love to meet prospective new members but that is not the main reason. Let’s have some fun with friends first and look forward to the broader word of mouth promotion that we should as a result. So, I would encourage you to forward this email to anyone who you think may be interested in this one-off day.
NEW COBBLES ARE IN - Message from Club President Tim Preston 2/Oct/2016
Thanks to Chris Glasson's leadership, Adam Pollard's immense generosity (Morgan Pollard Landscaping) and massive efforts from club volunteers we now have a beautiful area of paving ready for seating, tables and social occasions.
There are quite a lot of small leftover messes to sweep and pickup - if anyone can help it would be great - Dave Saunders will have a busy week this week getting ready for open day, so if would be great to find a couple of folk willing to give an hour or two to help with the cleanup.
There are two areas where the bikestands are now, which will be covered in astrograss once we get the astrograss supply which we expect. The smallish sheet of astrograss which is there presently, is only temporary.
Huge thanks to the volunteers - role of honour:
